The International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame is pleased to announce that Rocky “Soulman” Johnson, acclaimed and accomplished professional wrestler, will serve on its Board of Directors.

Rocky Johnson joins the IPWHF after the organization recently announced approval from the New York State Board of Regents to construct a world-class Hall of Fame Museum in Upstate New York. Johnson will contribute unparalleled industry knowledge to this effort.

Announcing the news of Johnson joining the board, IPWHF President Seth Turner said, "It is exciting to have Rocky Johnson become a part of the IPWHF. Rocky is a good friend and mentor, and now he lends his skills to benefit the entire wrestling community. I am pleased that he will be working alongside our other volunteers to help bring the International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame to New York State."

During his storied career, Rocky Johnson wrestled in every major territory in the United States, and headlined main events around the world. He has won more than 50 wrestling championship titles, including the World Wrestling Federation (now, WWE) Tag Team Championship in 1983, along with partner Tony Atlas, becoming the first African American wrestlers to hold those titles.

As a top contender in the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), Rocky Johnson challenged for the Worlds Heavyweight Championship on several occasions, including matches against Harley Race and Terry Funk. Johnson competed in over 7,000 matches before retiring from the ring in 1991.

Originally hailing from Amherst, Nova Scotia, and having traveled the globe as a top-tier performer, Rocky Johnson embodies the core values of the International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame. These attributes make Johnson an invaluable member of the IPWHF leadership team.

Rocky Johnson is the first internationally recognized wrestling star to join the IPWHF Board of Directors. Additional members will be announced in the coming days who, like Johnson, will contribute unmatched industry experience to help create the International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame.
