The International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame is pleased to announce that Lanny Poffo will host the IPWHF Inaugural Dinner on May 16 in Albany, New York.
Poffo will serve as master of ceremonies for an evening featuring many special guests from the professional wrestling community. Supporters and fans in attendance will hear Poffo and other guests talk about their memorable careers, their friendships, and their support for the IPWHF mission of building a prestigious and independent hall of fame to honor professional wrestlers worldwide.
The Inaugural Dinner is the first official event hosted by the IPWHF and will serve as its signature fundraiser of the year. All proceeds will support the International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame, a nonprofit organization that plans to open a world-class museum facility in New York State.
Lanny Poffo is well known for his performance as "The Genius" in the World Wrestling Federation (now known as WWE). Wearing academic regalia and reading poetry from a scroll, the arrogant Genius is one of the most memorable wrestling heels of the 1980s and 90s. As the Genius, Poffo was also an accomplished manager, famously helping "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig to outsmart the WWF Champion, Hulk Hogan, during a highly rated episode of NBC's Saturday Night's Main Event.
Poffo is a second-generation wrestler and son of Angelo Poffo, an American pro wrestler and promoter. Lanny is also brother to "Macho Man" Randy Savage, and the two worked together as a tag team and as opponents in several regional territories. In recent years, Poffo has also been active with Ring of Honor wrestling.
Additional special guests for the IPWHF Inaugural Dinner will be announced in the coming weeks. Subscribe to our email list at IPWHF.org to receive these and other news updates.
